Guidelines for Traveling along Eastern Border

A border zone between Finland and Russia facilitates border control and helps to maintain border security. The zone extends to a maximum of three kilometres on land and a maximum of four kilometres at sea.

You need a permit to enter the zone. Tourism is not an acceptable reason for a permit, and you will be punished for entering the zone without a permit. You can visit East Point without a permit.

The perimeter of the zone is marked with yellow border zone signs and yellow circles on trees and poles. On waterways, yellow leading marks are used as zone indicators. The marked boundary shall not be crossed without a permit.
